One more outfit that was inspired by the men's fashion of 1910's & 1920's, and the British TV series 'Downton Abbey', or maybe "The Great Gatsby' movie, or any other movie about those decades.
Since it is just an inspirational outfit, I don't do an exact copycat of men's outfits from that era. I'm only borrowing some of the details.
This time I used my very bright, cashmere argyle plaid pullover sweater, with a V neck. This kind of sweater was hugely popular because of the popularity of the Prince of Wales and his fashion on the golf course-and of course men wanted to look more casual and informal. That time sweaters were available in a true spectacle of bright colors and loud patterns. One reporter said they were “bright enough to stop traffic”. These vibrant colors were tans, greys, canary yellow, orange-brown, sky blue, royal blue and emerald green. Patterns were large checks, zig-zags, plaids, and wide horizontal stripes. Next thing that I borrowed from the 20's is oxford bags - it is very wide-legged pants; they were 25 inches wide at the knee and 22 inches at the ankle. At the most extreme, some bags came to 35 inches around the ankle! Oxford bags were made to wear over knickers. Because of their sporty wear look in Ivy league schools, knickers were banned from classrooms, so students invented wide legs pants. So I wore my wide-legged pants. Actually, they are wide enough for an authentic look- I checked them; they are 23 inches wide.
One more thing - a sport coat, also known as tweed jacket. My jacket looks kind of like the half Norfolk jacket, It has only a fake belt and also in the back it features a center vent
Also I added a flat hat. Of course, in the 20's flat caps were more baggy, not so tight and narrow as we see today. Even today,100 years later, men continue to wear this type of hat, unlike the other hats of that day. Do you remember when you last saw a man in a trilby, fedora, or panama hat? The derby and homburg hats are not even worth talking about, since they went out so many decades ago.

You are brave to jump into menswear. I find it to be a trend that can be difficult to wear.
How fun to try out a menswear outfit! I always want to reach into my husband's closet and wear some of his clothes, especially when I was something a little oversized for comfort!
