Layers + Fall Challenge Day #1

Today I started the 'Style Me Pretty Fall Challenge' that came from  Alison Lumbatis.
So for Day #1 we are going with a very  simple look and must wear a Striped Top + Boyfriend Jeans + Tassel Necklace + Ankle Boots

When I checked the weather app this morning I found out that today will be a really chilly day, but when I went outside it wasn't so at all. So since I trusted the forecast I put a lot of layers on and looked like a cabbage.

Texas Tuxedo

I think at least for the past four years the 'denim on denim' trend returned and rocked the fashion world. Only such a lazy fashionista as me didn't try to wear the "Texas tuxedo" yet, so finally I corrected this oversight.

Red, Black and a Shot of Stripes

I will be brief because all you need to know about this outfit is that these are dress pants, not yoga pants.

First Taste of Fall

Today is raining but last week we had absolutely 'summery' weather (some days hit 80 degrees) - so I wore an off- the-shoulder top with a denim vest...and because the calendar screamed about it being the end of September, I decided: it's time for a 'taste of fall' and sported my new pair of boots.

How To Transition Into Fall With Summer Items

Those who live north the equator have started transitioning into fall in one way or another. I’m personally not ready for fall and fall clothes. I checked my autumn items in the closet and I'm glad that I can still wait to dust them off. It is still essentially summer here in Connecticut; outside is about 75-80 degrees.
This past weekend when we went out, I decided to wear some of my summer pieces, but style them in a way to end up with a transitional look. I've put together a few of my thoughts and ideas. So I wore neon-orange jeans with a white-red stripes top - I think both of these items have typical spring or summer colors. This combo can easily be taken into early autumn, when I styled them with fall type pieces such as this lightweight sweater and peep-toe booties, both in natural color.
I think for this look at least, I deserve not just a ribbon, but a medal, so I pinned it on my chest (just not in the usual place).

Draped and Stylishly Slouchy

Last year this outfit was my travel basic. At airports I got a lot of compliments about it, but since that time I never wore these items together - only separately. So now I decided to correct the omission and had these clothes work with each other again.

Printed Pants for Autumn

Printed pants are an easy way to add a little bit of wow factor to an outfit. I love to wear my pants in summer and now, as long as weather permits I would like to wear them in fall.
So I wore my printed pants with two off the shoulder tops. Sometimes, depending on my mood, a rusty color top goes under a peach one, but this time I wore 'rusty' top over 'peach' because it looks more autumnal. Maybe I can show their interchangeability one day.

Destroyed jeans with boho & nautical vibe

Actually I'm not the type of person who will wear destroyed jeans on a daily basis, but sometimes I love to "go crazy" and wear edge items - and also cross-mixing them with other styles. So when "crazy time" came I decided to rock the destroyed jeans with a casual nautical top + feminine boho top and hat; and also add sporty sneakers. Such crazy mixing...but I love it!
Too bad that summer is over and now it's time to think about autumn edginess.

Transitioning Summer Striped Top Into Fall

Even though it's pretty warm outside and autumn has not officially arrived yet, we all know that summer is gone. So during this time 'between' seasons (I hope for couple more weeks of nice warmth) I am still able to wear my favorite summer items as we transition to fall.
I still want to wear this red and white striped top (you can see it in this, this and this post) and I'm so glad that for this time of year I can just add a light sweater and also feel comfortable a bit longer in my sandals. I don't want to let go of summer.

Normcore

In some cases in everyday life, I look overdressed when I'm around my husband.
So this summer I decided to match him more and here I am looking almost like his exact copy. For a complete transformation I would have to wear boat shoes and get rid of the cap.
These days when I wear his very old cut off  505 Levi's with tank tops or muscle shirts I'm telling myself that I'm also following a new (defined as a bland anti-style) Normcore trend.

Midi skirt + 'Birkenstock' sandals

In the late spring I wanted to try to put on my floral midi skirt with a 'Star Wars' t-shirt and 'Birkenstock' sandals. It's hard to believe, but for a long time after a trip to California I couldn't find that shirt in my own  closet. I even considered buying a new one on-line (the last one I bought was at 'DisneyWorld' in Florida) but finally the old 'Star Wars' t-shirt got accidentally discovered. So in the beginning of fall I was able to make this outfit up.

Celebrating Labor Day with stripes

Fall is right around the corner so I celebrated the final days of the summer season.

Chic way to pull off denim for a party

A loophole is to dress up denim with a white jacket and add an eye-catching clutch.

'Mad' about the 60-s - Joan

This week I jumped into into Joan’s world. It was quite difficult because I'm not a femme fatale. Her hips are hypnotic. So I just dressed my body-fitting dress and tried to show my curves as best as I could.

'Mad' about the 60-s - Megan

This week was dedicated to Megan Draper - the most stylish character of this series.
This is the only character we have often seen in pants - and those pants are not like Betty's pants. They vary significantly in terms of style.
Besides the fact that in recent seasons she is a prominent representative of boho-chic, she also displays a nice casual looks, with clothes like what we may have in our wardrobe, like tank tops, for example.(now it's difficult to imagine summer living without tank tops; in the past we wore them like undershirts).
So here is a few of Megan's recreations.
First - here Megan looks more like a person from the 70's, not the 60's.

Peplum top + shorts

When I bought a peplum top I thought I would wear it with a lot of items from my wardrobe, but in reality it wouldn't work as I assumed because, despite the natural color, the top has a neon orange rim on the armholes and neck line. So often it's the main reason why I  have doubts wearing it...maybe I'm too picky.
Last time I showed this peplum top with neon orange skinny jeans.
For our friend's daughter's graduation party on Saturday I wore this top with a jacquard shorts in natural color, plus a statement necklace that has some neon orange elements.

It's really funny because more than a month ago I wore the same shorts to a party for another friend's daughter's graduation.

'Mad' about the 60-s - Peggy Olsen

This week was dedicated to Peggy Olsen style.
At least for me, she is one of the most difficult characters for re-creating, especially when I look at her costumes from the first seasons, where she looks like some naive, ridiculous schoolgirl trying on outdated stuff from her mother's wardrobe. Modest and discreetly hiding her femininity in a "grandma dress" / skirt / blouse plus earthy colors and baby bangs adds up to a tricky set for a person like me who has nothing in common with Peggy.
In general, it's amazing how a person who is working in a creative environment stays so stylistically boring, clumsy & awkward,. even in the best of her dresses.
For me it turned out to be the easiest way to use these two images: the left - when Peggy was able to take off on her career zenith and right - at the beginning of her climb up the career ladder. In my mind there was one idea - one item (my white vest) may differentiate a boss and a subordinate, I hope I did it :)

'Mad' about the 60-s - Betty

Sometimes I want to dress like some movie characters, but actually rarely put this desire to reality.
So this month I want to challenge myself to finally follow my dream.
I'm starting this movie characters challenge and beginning  with the interesting female characters of  "Mad Men".Opening the season with Betty Draper. I used her style from the early seasons.

Short vacation

We had a two day vacation.
First stop was in New Hampshire at Hampton beach. It was so foggy in the evening, so here you can see me in the fifty shades of gray. I didn't mean any erotic sence in this, but real beach and ocean, and sky, and my outfit color.
