Inspiration Monday

I hope you had an amazing holiday season!
This week's inspiration Monday model from Two Birds is Heidi Klum.

I am not in the mood for blue jeans, so I wore a down puffer jacket with a cargo vest and light grey jeans.

Inspiration Monday

Today's inspiration over at Two Birds is Olivia Palermo, with a denim-on-denim look.
Actually, I already showed a similar post with the 'Texas tuxedo look'  in October. This time I just added a more wintery vibe and wore a jacket and a turtleneck sweater under my shirt.

Menswear Inspired

One more outfit that was inspired by the men's fashion of 1910's & 1920's, and the British TV series 'Downton Abbey', or maybe  "The Great Gatsby' movie, or any other movie about those decades. Since it is just an inspirational outfit, I don't do an exact copycat of men's outfits from that era. I'm only borrowing some of the details.

Inspirational Monday

Our inspiration from Two Birds today is Carey Mulligan
My outfit is kind of far from the original.
She wore black pants - I wore black leather pants. She wore a striped cardigan, I wore a striped scarf that gave me shape close to the one on her outfit.
Also, Carey Mulligan's outfit looks more classy and elegant, I look more like a "let's rock-n-roll".person.

Hoodie with jacket

Just my usual mix of easy winter basics.
I love the visual effect that a hoodie and jacket give each other. The sporty and relaxed vibe of  the hoodie mutes the blazer's strictness. On the other hand, the formal look of the jacket always adds a little more composure to the hoodie. Also, a hood by itself is a fun and practical detail for those people who don't want to wear a hat in winter.

Inspiration Monday

I'm back to Inspiration Monday. About year ago  I found a Two Birds blog link with kind of an interesting idea - Inspiration Monday. Every week they pick and post a picture for inspiration. Then you can post the link to your version of the inspiration on their post. For today our inspiration was Jennifer Aniston, who wore a plaid dress with black coat, and opaque tights with knee-high boots.
Since I don't have a checkered dress I switched it for a striped one and added over-the-knee boots.
In this outfit I went to my mother-in-law's birthday.

Also this year are the last photos that you can see me with long hair.

Borrowed from Men

Continuing the theme of outfits that were inspired by men's characters' clothing from the British TV series 'Downton Abbey'.
A previous 'Downton Abbey' post can be seen here. Regarding that posting, I wasn't sure what inspired me more - the menswear from the British TV series or the Ralph Lauren F/W 2012 collection based on that drama. This time I even thought about King Edward VIII's clothing.

Mesh sweater

Today a crazy snow storm came about, but yesterday I still had the opportunity to wear a sweater with a button down shirt.

Floral mood on the eve of the winter

Nature has given us a few warm days after a week of fairly cold weather (when I didn't want to go out because I froze, even when I was dressed warmly). So today I hurried to undress because, compared to 30 degrees earlier in the week, today's 60 seemed like summer.

I wore my favorite floral skirt with a plaid button-down shirt and an Aran sweater. I didn't dare go out with bare legs so I add sheer tights.
Other outfits with this skirt can be seen on the labels 'floral skirt'

Fashion Dreams about English hunting grounds

This is for any of my readers who remember my series of posts based on the 'Mad Men' movie's women characters' costumes.
Maybe it's time for something new, and now I want to use a collective image of the 'Downton Abbey' men's characters' clothes. Actually I can not even say what made a greater impression on me; the menswear from the British TV series or the Ralph Lauren F/W 2012 collection based on that drama.

So here I'm pretending that I'm hunting in the English countryside ...I was tempted to take a gun from our safe for greater reliability and authenticity but I chose not to complete the hunter look.

Pretty Woman

When a little girl in church saw my outfit, she immediately started to whisper in her mom's ear that she had never seen a such pretty woman like me. I think at her age kids don't yet lie about what they really like or don't:)
After I returned home I thought that I have other pair of boots that can make my outfit even better, so next time I wore lace boots instead of riding ones.
This is my second option.

PInspiration

This post was written back in the spring, but for some reason wasn't publish at that time. Since the weather then and now is about the same....I guess I can  publish this post now.

"In winter I saw this look at the J Crew lookbook and loved it.
At that time I couldn't walk with bare legs and with tights it didn't look as good as without them.
So when the weather became warm enough for bare legs, and not warm enough to go without a sweater, I finally went with this idea for a movie date night with my husband."

For Day #19  'Style Me Pretty Fall Challenge' we must wear а Neutral Sweater + Plaid Button Down + Black Jeans + Leopard Flats. My outfit for today was more dressed up than I expected because I wore heels instead of flats and a jacket instead of a sweater.

Fall challenge: Days 12 to 15

For Day #12  'Style Me Pretty Fall Challenge' we must wear a Neutral Sweater + Solid Tee + Leggings (or Black Jeans) + Leopard Flats
My outfit for the day: I'm  not feeling comfortable wearing leggings outside the house, so it's good that I stayed home all day.

Fall challenge: Days 9 to 11

For Day #9 'Style Me Pretty Fall Challenge' we must wear a Dressy Sweatshirt + Striped Tee + Leggings (or Black Jeans) + Leopard Flats.
A few weeks ago I wore a similar outfit, so that day I changed it a little for My 'going to a restaurant with my husband and a friend' outfit. I was really feeling uncomfortable going out in leggings and flats, so I wore over-the-knee boots.

Layers + Fall Challenge Day #1

Today I started the 'Style Me Pretty Fall Challenge' that came from  Alison Lumbatis.
So for Day #1 we are going with a very  simple look and must wear a Striped Top + Boyfriend Jeans + Tassel Necklace + Ankle Boots

When I checked the weather app this morning I found out that today will be a really chilly day, but when I went outside it wasn't so at all. So since I trusted the forecast I put a lot of layers on and looked like a cabbage.

Texas Tuxedo

I think at least for the past four years the 'denim on denim' trend returned and rocked the fashion world. Only such a lazy fashionista as me didn't try to wear the "Texas tuxedo" yet, so finally I corrected this oversight.

Red, Black and a Shot of Stripes

I will be brief because all you need to know about this outfit is that these are dress pants, not yoga pants.

First Taste of Fall

Today is raining but last week we had absolutely 'summery' weather (some days hit 80 degrees) - so I wore an off- the-shoulder top with a denim vest...and because the calendar screamed about it being the end of September, I decided: it's time for a 'taste of fall' and sported my new pair of boots.

How To Transition Into Fall With Summer Items

Those who live north the equator have started transitioning into fall in one way or another. I’m personally not ready for fall and fall clothes. I checked my autumn items in the closet and I'm glad that I can still wait to dust them off. It is still essentially summer here in Connecticut; outside is about 75-80 degrees.
This past weekend when we went out, I decided to wear some of my summer pieces, but style them in a way to end up with a transitional look. I've put together a few of my thoughts and ideas. So I wore neon-orange jeans with a white-red stripes top - I think both of these items have typical spring or summer colors. This combo can easily be taken into early autumn, when I styled them with fall type pieces such as this lightweight sweater and peep-toe booties, both in natural color.
I think for this look at least, I deserve not just a ribbon, but a medal, so I pinned it on my chest (just not in the usual place).

Draped and Stylishly Slouchy

Last year this outfit was my travel basic. At airports I got a lot of compliments about it, but since that time I never wore these items together - only separately. So now I decided to correct the omission and had these clothes work with each other again.

Printed Pants for Autumn

Printed pants are an easy way to add a little bit of wow factor to an outfit. I love to wear my pants in summer and now, as long as weather permits I would like to wear them in fall.
So I wore my printed pants with two off the shoulder tops. Sometimes, depending on my mood, a rusty color top goes under a peach one, but this time I wore 'rusty' top over 'peach' because it looks more autumnal. Maybe I can show their interchangeability one day.

Destroyed jeans with boho & nautical vibe

Actually I'm not the type of person who will wear destroyed jeans on a daily basis, but sometimes I love to "go crazy" and wear edge items - and also cross-mixing them with other styles. So when "crazy time" came I decided to rock the destroyed jeans with a casual nautical top + feminine boho top and hat; and also add sporty sneakers. Such crazy mixing...but I love it!
Too bad that summer is over and now it's time to think about autumn edginess.

Transitioning Summer Striped Top Into Fall

Even though it's pretty warm outside and autumn has not officially arrived yet, we all know that summer is gone. So during this time 'between' seasons (I hope for couple more weeks of nice warmth) I am still able to wear my favorite summer items as we transition to fall.
I still want to wear this red and white striped top (you can see it in this, this and this post) and I'm so glad that for this time of year I can just add a light sweater and also feel comfortable a bit longer in my sandals. I don't want to let go of summer.

Normcore

In some cases in everyday life, I look overdressed when I'm around my husband.
So this summer I decided to match him more and here I am looking almost like his exact copy. For a complete transformation I would have to wear boat shoes and get rid of the cap.
These days when I wear his very old cut off  505 Levi's with tank tops or muscle shirts I'm telling myself that I'm also following a new (defined as a bland anti-style) Normcore trend.

Midi skirt + 'Birkenstock' sandals

In the late spring I wanted to try to put on my floral midi skirt with a 'Star Wars' t-shirt and 'Birkenstock' sandals. It's hard to believe, but for a long time after a trip to California I couldn't find that shirt in my own  closet. I even considered buying a new one on-line (the last one I bought was at 'DisneyWorld' in Florida) but finally the old 'Star Wars' t-shirt got accidentally discovered. So in the beginning of fall I was able to make this outfit up.

Chic way to pull off denim for a party

A loophole is to dress up denim with a white jacket and add an eye-catching clutch.
